Overview
Kaxaml is a lightweight XAML editor that gives you a “split view” so you can see both your XAML and your rendered content (kind of like XamlPad but without the gigabyte of SDK). … Kaxaml is designed to be “notepad for XAML.” It’s supposed to be simple and lightweight and make it easy to just try something out.
Kaxaml is a program that allows you to program XAML code and preview its content. It has many bits of XAML code called snippets with samples, styles, 2D shapes, controls, animations, layouts, controls and more. The main window is divided into three windows: the tools menu that can be expanded in more options; the preview window that shows the results of the code you are programming; and the editor window where you can type your code, you can copy, cut, and paste any text block, and insert snippets by double clicking on them. You can open several XAML documents at the same time; they are arranged by tabs shown in the upper part of the main window. If you don’t want to look over the complete code, to find some parts you can utilize the “Find” option – also, the text found can be replaced. With “Color Picker” you can generate colors and save them to the colors palette. When generating a color the code number is shown, e.g. #FF5B1A1A – dark red. With “Snapshot” you can copy the preview window results to the clipboard or save them to a file. “Xaml Scrubber” allows you to reformat your XAML code according to attributes importance, remove common default values, etc. (attribute tolerance and numeric precision can be established). When installing it you have the option to set Kaxaml as the default program to open .XAML files. System requirements: Windows XP/Vista and .NET Framework version 3.0.
Kaxaml is a lightweight XAML editor that gives you a “split view” so you can see both your XAML and your rendered content. Although EventIDE provides a dynamic preview for your XAML scripts the Kaxaml editor can be useful for editing complex scripts. Also Kaxaml contains a library of the prepared XAML templates.
XAML
XAML is a declarative XML-based markup language created by Microsoft. EventIDE allows coding with XAML for multiple purposes, such as:
- creating vector-based graphical materials, e.g. vectors shapes as fixation crosses, etc
- creating complex 3D scenes
- programming custom status screens
- designing interactive GUI controls and questionnaire forms for participants
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The World Wide Web Consortium’s XML 1.0 Specification] of 1998 and several other related specifications]—all of them free open standards—define XML.
The design goals of XML emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability across the Internet.[6] It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for different human languages. Although the design of XML focuses on documents, the language is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures such as those used in web services.
Several schema systems exist to aid in the definition of XML-based languages, while programmers have developed many application programming interfaces (APIs) to aid the processing of XML data.
Kaxaml is a lightweight XAML editor that gives you a “split view” so you can see both your XAML and your rendered content (kind of like XamlPad but without the gigabyte of SDK). Kaxaml is a hobby and was created to be shared, so it’s free! Feel free to download and try it out. If you don’t like it, it cleans up nicely.
Kaxaml is designed to be “notepad for XAML.” It’s supposed to be simple and lightweight and make it easy to just try something out. It also has some basic support for intellisense and some fun plugins (including one for snippets, one for cleaning up your XAML and for rendering your XAML to an image).
Kaxaml is built using WPF. To use it, you need to have the .NET Framework version 4.0 installed on your machine.
If you really don’t want to install the newest version of .NET or need a version of Kaxaml that is limited to .NET 3.5, you can get the download the previous version of Kaxaml. The only thing that changed between these two versions is the version of .NET that they target.
