Anyone can do a APT GET and install a OSS stack or use Synaptics. But just having root permission doesnt mean you should. root provides lot of rights and powers and brings great responsibilities. Every Stack has its own issues and problems which has to be resolved. Every stack also had lot of exposed interfaces
